Case Study : SHADING & LIGHTING

> We were assigned to analyze design strategies of the selected spaces, identify issues and propose passive design for shading and lighting.

> Research on the effect of thermal comfort and comfort level in a person and space relating to shading and lighting are required.

> Refers to MS1525 , UBBL and GBI, and criticize the design of the space in terms of thermal comfort.

Reflection

Through this assignment, I have explored:

> how to analyze building orientation, wind direction and solar radiation.

> learnt how to create 3D building and 2D elevations and sections using SketchUp.

> By using "curic sun" in SketchUp, I learnt how to generate solar chart and sun-path diagram.

> learnt how to create contour diagram, wind rose diagram, humidity comfort diagram and material analysis.

> learnt how to calculate U-value, and propose a design with lowest U-value as possible

I start to learn how to observe the buildings surrounds me, the purpose of the particular design and how it impacts the building functions.
